Propulsion Systems

The shuttle's propulsion systems are simulated in the MPS module. This module includes the Shuttle Main Engines (SME), the solid rocket boosters (SRB), and the Orbital Maneuvering System (OMS) engines.

Shuttle Main Engines and SRB

Main Propulsion System switches

The shuttle main engines are controlled by a switch bank. This panel includes all engine related switches on the shuttle but were rearranged to fit the screen.

OMS System

The OMS engines are used to make orbital maneuvers. These are smaller engines that burn hypergolic fuels which ignite upon contact, making the engines very reliable. Orbital maneuvers are controlled on the main screen and can be uploaded from the GPC or the GNC console in mission control. The upload source is selected by check box.
